Predictive Services Discussion:
The leading edge of a cooler air mass will bring increasing showers and a chance of thunderstorms to the Great
Lakes and Upper Ohio Valley., with much cooler temperatures spreading into the Upper Mississippi Valley. A
chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist well ahead of the cold front across the central Appalachians
to Mid-Atlantic associated with a weak, remnant low pressure system. It will remain largely dry with temperatures
near to slightly above normal in the Northeast. Across the West, a weak cold front will approach the Pacific
Northwest coast while high pressure aloft builds over the Rockies, California, Great Basin, and Southwest.
Outside a chance of showers across western Washington, unseasonably hot and dry weather will dominate
much of the West. Extreme heat with temperatures of 95°F to 110°F will continue across interior California, the
southern Great Basin, and lower elevations of the Southwest amid relative humidity of 5-15%. Winds overall are
expected to be lighter across the West, but locally gusty westerly winds are expected on the east slopes of the
Cascades and Sierra.
