ARTICULATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN
THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS BOSTON
AND
CAPE COD COMMUNITY COLLEGE
ESTABLISHING A JOINT ADMISSION PROGRAM LEADING TO AN ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE AND
BACHELOR’S OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
In recognition of and coordination with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts efforts to increase
the percentage of baccalaureate educated registered nurses practicing in the state, the
University of Massachusetts Boston and Cape Cod Community College hereby establish a joint
admission program leading to an Associate of Science and Bachelors of Science in Nursing
This agreement is formed to better serve the students of the two institutions, by streamlining
the application process and establishing a clear pathway from the ASN to the BSN
To reach these goals, the following Agreement is entered into by the University of Massachusetts Boston
and Cape Cod Community College:
I. Program Summary
At the time of application to the ASN program at Cape Cod Community College, applicants can
opt for their application to be shared with the University of Massachusetts Boston for
provisional admission to the Nursing for RNs program. The University will only receive and
review applications for students who are admitted to the CCCC program.
II. Rationale
The joint admission program offers qualified students the ability to be admitted to both the ASN
and BSN programs simultaneously, streamlining the application process and establishing a clear
and concrete pathway to baccalaureate completion. The agreement will allow Cape Cod
Community College to attract students to the ASN program who are interested in baccalaureate
completion as well as support enrollments in UMass Boston’s Nursing for RNs program offered
at Cape Cod Community College.
III. Oversight
A. Cape Cod Community College will be responsible for clearly identifying the joint admission
option their admission application. Additionally, they will be responsible for sharing
individual applications and related materials with the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Cape Cod Community College will also provide information about students who have been
dismissed or have discontinued the ASN program.
B. The University will be responsible for communicating directly with applicants throughout
their ASN program and providing information about next steps and matriculation into the
Nursing for RNs program.
C. The two institutions will be in communication regarding changes to curriculum, admission
requirements and deadlines and the mailing of acceptance letters.
IV. Eligibility for Joint Admission
Students who are admitted to the Cape Cod Community College ASN program and opt-in to the
joint admission program are eligible for conditional admission to the Nursing for RNs program at
the University of Massachusetts Boston. Acceptance to the Nursing for RNs program is
contingent upon the following:
A. Successful completion of the Cape Cod Community College ASN program as evidenced by an
official transcript reflecting a conferred ASN degree
B. Current valid Massachusetts RN license
C. Review of Personal Disclosure responses
V. Advising and Enrollment
A. Information about the joint admission option should be made available to prospective ASN
students via the Cape Cod Community College website and other promotional materials.
B. Students will be admitted to UMass Boston at the time of their admission to the ASN
program at Cape Cod Community College. The admit term will be the fall semester,
following their expected graduation year from the ASN program.
C. The admit term for the BSN program can be adjusted based on expected completion term.
D. Eligible students must matriculate into the BSN program within two years of completion of
the ASN. After such time the joint admission will be cancelled and students will have to
initiate a new application if they wish to be considered for the BSN program.
E. Students will be clearly advised that they must successfully graduate from the ASN program,
seek and receive licensure, and submit personal disclosure responses for review before they
can enroll at UMass Boston.
VI. Implementation
The joint admission option shall be retroactively offered to all currently enrolled ASN students in
good standing and made available as an option on the application for all future ASN applicants
beginning with the next admission cycle.
