DID YOU KNOW?
You can renew your vehicle registration at a self-service tag kiosk! Locate a local kiosk.
Skip the line and go online! Use Georgia DRIVES e-Services to renew your vehicle
registration, pay insurance fines, change address, apply for a tag, and more!
Bring the current out-of-state title along with a completed Georgia Title Application (dor.georgia.gov/
mv-1-dor-motor-vehicle-titletag-application) to one of our oices. A new Georgia title will be mailed
from the GA Dept of Revenue to the registered owner’s address listed on the MV-1 form or the lienholder
(if applicable). Please note that if the title is held by a lien holder, additional documents may be required.
For more information, cobbtax.org/motor_vehicles/titling.php.
If your loved one comes into our oice, we can help him/her complete the above form. However, if not, it
needs to be completed with signatures from all vehicle owners or the designated POA.
The designated POA of the vehicle owner(s) may come in and submit transactions on behalf of
the owner(s) by having the owner(s) execute a limited Power of Attorney (POA) for motor vehicle
transactions (dor.georgia.gov/t-8-limited-power-attorneymotor-vehicle-transactions).
Also note, vehicles will need GA insurance and a passed emissions test in order for us to complete the
registration and issue a tag. If the vehicle is 10 years or older, the vehicle is driven 5,000 miles or less
yearly, and the owner is over the age of 65, please visit cleanairforce.com/motorists/waivers-extensions-
exemptions/senior-exemptions/ as an emission exemption may be available.
In addition to a $20 tag fee and an $18 title fee, new residents are also required to pay a one-time title ad
valorem tax (TAVT) of 3% of the car’s value as determined by the GA Dept of Revenue. To estimate TAVT
due, go to the ‘Estimates’ box at eservices.drives.ga.gov/_/#1. Then be sure to click ‘yes’ under residency
to get an estimate based on the reduced new resident rate.
Once we have the out-of-state title and the paperwork to get a GA title, you can pay the fees and we can
register the vehicle and issue a tag and decal while you are in the oice.
If the vehicle owner is disabled, a disabled parking permit or license plate may be issued. For more
information, visit cobbtax.org/motor_vehicles/disabled_placards.php.
Getting a car tag sounds simple, but it can be tedious if you are not familiar with state protocol.
