What is the Certified Nurse Aide

The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
program is a basic course to begin a
career in the healthcare industry. The
courses are designed to provide students
with the knowledge and skills needed to
assist patients with the essential activities
of daily living.
This program is required by the Texas
Department of Health and Human
Services and must be completed prior
to being approved to sit for the state
certification exam.
What are the prerequisites for the
Certified Nurse Aide program? The
student must have the ability to speak,
read, and write English well enough to
understand course content and
communicate effectively with patients.
Students, who are unsure if they will
meet this requirement, may request an
interview with the program coordinator.
Interested students must also have a
clean criminal record and pass a
background check.
What is the schedule for the
Certified Nurse Aide courses?
We offer various times and locations
that work for all types of scheduling
needs, including weekends and
evenings. The classes are held at the
Highland, Riverside, and Round Rock
campuses. The clinical training is held
at long term care facilities in Austin,
Round Rock, and Georgetown
surrounding areas. To access the current

on the application checklist as
directed.

very specific information and

submit all required information.
Once you have completed the
application process, you will be
notified by the application specialist
that you are clear to register for the
class and its corresponding clinical

Do you have to attend class/ Are
classes offered online? It is
mandatory that you attend class each
day it is offered. If you do not attend
100 hours, as required by the state,

immunization process? Each student is
required to submit proof of their current
